        TL;DR: BillScan processes ALL data locally in your browser. We do NOT collect, store, transmit, or have access to any of your medical or personal information. Period.
    

1. What Data We Collect

None. BillScan does not collect any personal data, medical information, billing data, or usage analytics.

2. How BillScan Works

BillScan reads text content from the webpage you are currently viewing when you explicitly click the extension icon. This text is processed entirely within your browser using JavaScript. No data is sent to any server, API, or third party.

Text extraction occurs only on the active tab when you click the BillScan icon
All analysis (error detection, price comparison, dispute letter generation) runs locally
Scan history is stored in Chrome's local storage on your device only
No network requests are made to process your bills

3. Permissions Explained

activeTab: Allows BillScan to read the current page's text content ONLY when you click the extension icon. Cannot access other tabs.
storage: Saves your scan history and settings locally in Chrome. This data stays on your device.
scripting: Allows BillScan to extract text from the page you're viewing.

4. Data Storage

BillScan stores the following data locally on your device using Chrome's storage API:

Scan history (summary results, not raw bill data)
Your settings (name, dark mode preference)
Subscription status

You can delete all stored data at any time by removing the extension or clearing its data in Chrome settings.

5. Third-Party Services

BillScan does not use any third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising services. If you subscribe to BillScan Pro, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your payment information.

6. Medical Disclaimer

BillScan provides informational analysis only and is not a substitute for professional medical billing advice. Always verify findings with your healthcare provider or insurance company before disputing charges.

7. Children's Privacy

BillScan is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children.
