HalalWise — Privacy Policy

VertexLab Solutions ("we", "our", or "us") operates the HalalWise mobile application. This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information when you use our app.

Information We Collect

Data Stored Locally on Your Device

HalalWise stores all your data locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This includes:

Scan history (product names, barcodes, halal verdicts)
Dietary profile preferences (madhab, strict mode settings)
App settings and preferences
Scan count for free tier tracking

We do not have access to this data. It remains on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.

Camera

HalalWise requests camera access to scan product barcodes and ingredient labels. Images captured by the camera are processed on-device and are not stored or uploaded to external servers.

Product Lookups (Open Food Facts)

When you scan a barcode, HalalWise queries the Open Food Facts database to retrieve product information (name, brand, ingredients). This is a public, open-source API. The only data transmitted is the barcode number. No personal information is sent.

AI Ingredient Analysis

When an ingredient cannot be classified using our local database, HalalWise may send the ingredient name (not your personal data) to OpenAI's API for classification. Specifically:

Only the ingredient name is sent (e.g., "gelatin", "glycerin")
No personal information, location, or device data is transmitted
No images are sent to the AI service
Requests are not linked to your identity
Data is processed in accordance with OpenAI's privacy policy

Data We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect personal identification information
We do not track your location
We do not use analytics or tracking SDKs
We do not sell any data to third parties
We do not use advertising identifiers
We do not store your scanned images

Subscriptions

HalalWise Pro subscriptions are processed through Apple's App Store. Payment information is handled entirely by Apple and is not accessible to us.

Children's Privacy

HalalWise does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages.

Data Deletion

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you can delete all app data by deleting the HalalWise app from your device.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted within the app and on this page.
